ABOUT US

since 2010​

In December '09, Kelly & Bethany got together to cook a simple brunch. About 8 hours (and 5 dishes) later, we were setting the next date to share recipes. We share a love for good, local, plant-based food. We are also passionate about minimizing the impact of restaurants on the planet. Kale's Kitchen marries these two passions to offer Indianapolis a dining experience like no other!

 

Our goal is to share our knowledge about being a successful, sustainable entrepreneur, and make it as cost-effective and easy for you to explore your culinary curiousities. Making something amazing at home? Share it with the world! We offer over 30 years of varied experience and want to help other's to realize their culinary dreams.

 

 

Being as passionate about the environment and quality of life as we are, our goal is to be NetZero by year 5. We hope that our sustainable practices will follow our successful vendors on their journey and help make their triple bottom line more robust. Diverting from the landfill by having compost, using solar thermal to heat domestic water, and grey-water plumbing to minimize potable water usage, are just some of the key ingredients in our plan. Having a high-efficiency induction cooktop next to gas will demonstrate the benefits of induction ranges for novice chefs. Another aspect is to encourage our vendors to provide at least one plant-based offering. More and more people are eating vegetarian, and capturing the attention of this burgeoning market will give restauranteers a competitive edge.  

 

Who are we? Kelly (formerly known as The 'Kelly's Penguin Pops' Popsicle Lady) had an Organic Popsicle Cart in Ann Arbor, MI and understands the barriers and challenges that face a culinary entrepreneur. She is also a sustainability specialist, and understands the most cost effective ways to design and operate a restaurant business.

 

Bethany has an extensive HR background- and has also worked in a lot of different restaurants. She can help guide in best practices for these start-up carts, including marketing, build-out, and start up advice.
